Full Description

An Iron Age strap-union was found at the Greetwell villa site near Lincoln, during ironworking in the late 19th century. Strap-unions appear to have formed part of the standard equipment of an Iron Age chariot, being used to join leather straps or reins. The item has since been lost, although an illustration of it was made in 1891, which shows the artefact to be of the 'figure of eight' type. The item was formed of two conjoined rings with two parallel strap bars on either side, and with white paste and red enamel decoration. {1}
