Full Description

Site of Ings Farm, Little Steeping. Demolished 19th century farmstead. Regular courtyard of U plan. The farmhouse was detached from the main working complex. Isolated location. {1} The farmstead is thought to have been demolished at some point in the 1970s. The farm was occupied by the Stephenson family during the early and mid 20th century, who worked the land here as a mixed farm, keeping cattle, pigs, chickens and turkeys, but also growing sugar beet, barley, oats and wheat. Historic mapping and plans of this area show the former farmhouse on the eastern side of the farmstead, with a range of older farm buildings to the south-west functioning as stables and shelters for pigs, chickens and calves. A later range of farm buildings to the north-west functioned largely as cattle shelters, with further space for pigs and storage. {2}
