Full Description

Former school. A large, asymmetrical, two storey red brick building in English Bond, under a steeply pitched gabled roof of slate tiles. Parapet gables with moulded stone shoulders. Windows are a mix of large and small pointed trefoil arch windows. Window surrounds and quoins of dressed stone. One possibly modern addition dormer with uPVC casement window. One ridge stack and one lateral stack. Five course brick plinth. There is a coat of arms on the southwest gable end. An outbuilding or annex was added to the north, in sympathetic style, at some point in the late 20th or 21st centuries. {1} White's 1856 Trade Directory of Lincolnshire refers to a 'small school, supported by subscription'. The 1872 Directory states that a new school was built in 1868, at a cost of £760. {2}{3} This building is present in the same asymmetrical plan form on the 1887, 1906, and 1950 Ordnance Survey maps of Walesby. {4}{5}{6} Documentation from the Lincolnshire archives states that the school was opened as a National School in 1854. Senior children were transferred to the new Market Rasen Senior Council School from 1937. The school was closed on 23 July 1965, with the children transferred to Tealby School. {7}
