Full Description

Former school building, since converted for residential use. Light brick construction in Common Bond, under a pitched gabled roof of pantiles. Brick plinth with blue brick coping. Two modern dormers. Lancet window on northeast gable end. The north-eastern three bays of the original building survive, but a modern extension appears to have replaced the southeast end. The window and door openings are all four-centred arches with decorative lintels. There is a dentil course below the eaves. {1} White's 1856 Trade Directory of Lincolnshire states that the school was built on the site of the 'old vicarage house' in 1855 and a Mrs. Sanderson is listed as the local schoolmistress. White’s 1872 Directory notes that the school was erected at the cost of £170 and was attended at the time by around 30 children. {2}{3}{4} The building has the same plan form on both the 1887, 1907, and 1950 OS maps of Searby-cum-Owmby and is marked as a school on all three. {5}{6}{7} By 1972, the building was no longer in use as a school. It is unclear exactly when it was decommissioned though it was conceivably during the mass reorganisation of Lincolnshire's primary education in the late 1960s. {8}
