Full Description

Primary school. Mid 19th century core with significant late 20th and 21st century expansion and alteration. The original school building was a one and a half storey buff brick construction, under a pitched gabled M-shaped roof of slate. The front gable elevation has two large three-pointed arch window openings with modern uPVC casement windows. There are a number of prefabricated buildings adjacent to the main school building. {1} In White's 1856 Directory of Lincolnshire, a Jane Holtby is listed as being the schoolmistress in nearby Kirkby, but there is no reference to a school in Osgodby itself. The 1872 Directory states that the school was built in 1868. {2}{3} The building retains the same L-shape plan form on the 1887, 1906 and 1950 OS maps. {4}{5}{6} A document in the Lincolnshire Archives states that the school was built as a National School in 1822. It was later administered by the Kirkby-cum-Osgodby School Board, formed in 1876, as the Kirkby-cum-Osgodby Board School, and enlarged in 1894. The school became the Kirkby-cum-Osgodby Council School in 1903. After 1936 and by 1939 the name was changed to the Osgodby Council School. It became Osgodby County School, in about 1947, and was known as Osgodby County Primary School prior to September 1999, since when the current title has been used. {7}
