Full Description

Former school. It is uncertain how much, if any, of the original building remains extant. {1} The building is visible on the 1887, 1906 and 1950 OS Maps of the village. {2}{3}{4} There is no mention of a school in the parish in either White’s 1856 or 1872 Trade Directories. {5}{6} This is reinforced by an 1855 return from the local curate quoted in Rex Russell, which suggested that 'a school has been tried more than once and found utterly impracticable in so small a parish'. {7} Documents from the Lincolnshire archives state that the school was built in 1871 as a parochial school, and known as Kirmond-le-Mire Mixed School. It was known as Kirmond le Mire CE School by 1913. From January 1947 senior children were transferred to Market Rasen Modern School. The school was closed on 18 December 1970, with the children transferred to Binbrook CE School. {8}
