Full Description

Former school, since converted for residential use. It is a large one and a half to two storey red brick building in cross-wing form, under pitched gabled roofs of slate. It is set back approximately 25m from the road. {1} The school can be seen in its current plan form on both the 1887 and 1906 OS maps. {2}{3} White's 1856 Trade Directory makes no mention of a school in the parish, but does list a William Brumpton as employed as schoolmaster. In the 1872 Trade Directory, a Mary Rushby is listed as schoolmistress. {4}{5} Records in the Lincolnshire Archives suggest that the school was opened on the 4th February 1878 by the Glentham and Caenby United District School Board, which was formed in 1876. It became Glentham Council School in 1903, then Glentham County Primary School in 1947 before finally becoming the Glentham County School from 1952 onwards. Senior children were transferred to Market Rasen Secondary Modern School from September 1946. The school was closed on the 23rd July 1971, with the children transferred to Hemswell RAF school. {6}
