Full Description

The northern range of outbuildings at Manor Farm was included in a programme of historic building recording, conducted in July 2015 to inform their proposed conversion to housing. The surveyed buildings likely date to the mid 19th century, although they have been altered numerous times over the course of their existence, and few internal features and fittings survive. The whole range is single-storey, and is built of brick laid in an English Garden Wall bond, with pitched roofs of red clay pantiles. The earliest part of the complex appears to be the structure in the south-eastern corner, which is built of red brick and features a slightly higher roofline than the rest of the outbuildings. This roof appears to have been lowered at one point, suggesting the structure was originally of two-storeys. The presence of stable doors with bullnosed bricks suggest that this structure functioned as a former stable, although no stalls survive inside. The rest of the structures in this complex are built of yellow brick and comprise two former open-fronted shelter sheds at the north and western ends, and an open-fronted former cart shed in the middle. Map evidence suggests that a number of additional farm structures originally formed part of the complex, creating a largely enclosed courtyard space in the middle. Although these structures have since been demolished traces of their former positions can still be discerned as foundation lines and fargments of walling. {1}{2}
