Full Description

The complex of farm buildings at Austendike Hall were the subject of detailed building recording, conducted in January 2015, prior to their proposed conversion to housing. This structure was thought to date to the late 18th century and comprised a cart shed and stable at the ground floor with a probable granary room to the first floor. The building was constructed of red brick, mostly laid in English bond, and featured a gabled pantile roof. An integral brick outshot on the northern side provides covered access stairs to the first floor rooms. Arched openings to the southern elevation provide access to the western stable room and eastern tack room respectively, with larger double doors allowing entry to the central cart store. The walls were plastered in the former cart store and partially timber framed in the tack room, where there was also a fireplace. The original timber stairs up to the first floor probable granary appeared to have been replaced at some point. {1}{2}
