Full Description

Eaight Dutch barns, arranged as four adjoining pairs, to the east of the former flax factory at Metheringham Heath Lane. The barns were constructed during the Second World War, along with the majority of the factory complex. They were built of corrugated iron walls and roofs, attached to a steel frame. Maker's stamps showed that they were manufactured by A.J. Main and Co. of Glasgow and London. The central pair of barns had mono-pitched roofs attached to their eastern side, provinding an extra external sheltered area. The internal areas of the barns were floored with concrete. The barns would have been used for the storage of processed flax fibres prior to their shipment from the complex (see PRN 65854). The barns were largely demolished in 2015. {1}{2}
