Full Description

A small building, thought to represent a former watermill of probably post-medieval date, is depicted in this location on the 1793 Tealby Enclosure Award map. The building is depicted as a roughly L shaped structure, straddling the River Rase. The building is not depicted on the later 1st edition 6 inch Ordnance Survey County Series map, which depicts the current and still extant watermill structure to the east (see PRN 56336), suggesting the older structure had been demolished and replaced at some point in the 19th century. Temple Garth is thought to have medieval monastic associations, or may possibly have been a possession of the Knights Templar (see PRN 50616), and it may be that the building has ealier medieval origins. The structure survives as a pile of overgrown buried rubble. An east to west aligned hollow way runs from the remains along the southern edge of the Temple Garth woodland. {1}{2}{3}
