Full Description

This small complex of former farm structures were the subject of a programme of building recording, conducted in June 2015, prior to their proposed conversion. The complex developed in the mid to late 19th century during the Victorian 'High Farming' movement, but are unusual in their association with a glebe estate land parcel, rather than being of the more typical planned farm type. The principal structure of the complex is a two-storey field barn, built of roughly coursed limestone rubble with some larger quoin stones and brick dressings to the door openings. A single-storey, open-fronted cart shed and implement store, also built of roughly coursed limestone rubble, is attached to the east, and a 20th century, breeze-block constructed lean-to is to the south. All of the roofs are pitched, but have been relatively recently renewed with corrugated asbestos cement sheets. A small crewyard is thought to have originally been located where the lean-to now sits, though little evidence of this structure now remains. Many of the interior walls show evidence of having been whitewashed. Aside from the renewal of the roofs, the buildings are relatively unaltered. {1}{2}
