Full Description

On the afternoon of 29th January 1943, an Avro Lancaster Bomber, designated ED503 of 9 Squadron, took off from Waddington on an engine and airframe test-flight, but crashed at c.15:30, on open fenland at Sibsey Northlands. All 6 of the crewmen aboard the aircraft died in the crash, the cause of which could not be determined. One of the crewmen was thrown clear of the crash site, and his remains were collected for burial in his hometown of Dalkeith, Scotland.
