Full Description

The remains of a possible former quarry pit was identified as an area of weak magnetic variation in October 2014, during magnetometry survey conducted to inform a proposed extension to Little Ponton Quarry. {1} Subsequent trial trenching, conducted in April 2015, confirmed the remains of the former quarry pit, cutting into the natural limestone brash. Sherds of late post-medieval pottery were identified in the fill of the pit, but were not retained. {2}{3}
