Full Description

A small pit of likely post-medieval date was identified in July 2014, during the archaeological monitoring of extensions to the Harvest House Care Home at 126 Carholme Road, Lincoln. The pit was irregular in both shape and depth, and was thought to be the result of clay extraction in this area, although the exact date of its digging could not be determined. The pit had been back-filled in the late 19th century, prior to industrial development on the site. Finds recovered from the pit were all of late 19th century date, with the exception of one sherd of almost certainly redeposited late medieval/early post-medieval pottery. {1}{2}
