Full Description

Extensive post-medieval dumped deposits were recorded in January 2012, during the archaeological monitoring of the groundworks for the construction of a new dwelling at Broadgate, Whaplode Drove. The deposits were likely to be the result of attempts to raise the ground level, prior to the construction of a cottage on the site. This cottage was thought to have been built in the early 19th century, but was demolished in about 2013. The monitoring also recorded the remains of a post medieval cistern, very likely associated with the former structure. {1}{2} The former building is depicted on the 1st edition 6 inch Ordnance Survey County Series map, where it is named 'Holly Lodge'. {3}
