Full Description

Two ditched enclosures were recorded in this location in March 2013, during trial trenching conducted to inform proposed residential development on land north of Woodlands Drive. Environmental evidence recovered from the fill of the ditches suggests that the enclosures were bounded by hedges and functioned as animal enclosures, situated on the outskirts of a settlement or farmstead. A quantity of late Iron Age pottery was recovered from the fills of the ditches. The pottery was in a fragmentary condition but appeared to of a domestic nature and showed evidence of use including sooting and wear. Two post holes were also excavated within the enclosures, and were interpreted as the remains of possible animal shelters or fencing. {1}{2}
