Full Description

A Bronze Age pit was recorded in this location in March 2013, during trial trenching conducted to inform proposed residential development on land north of Woodlands Drive. Fragments from the remains of two early/mid Bronze Age pottery food vessels were recovered from the upper fill of the pit. Although the type of pottery recovered is normally associated with funerary contexts, the analysis of environmental samples taken from the lower fill would suggest a more domestic nature for the pit. These samples contained a large quantity of charcoal and the charred remains of hazelnut and cereal grains, and would suggest that the material derived from the debris of a cooking fire. {1}{2}
