Full Description

A ditch and cobbled surface of late post-medieval date were identified in March 2014, during the excavation of three trial trenches on land adjacent to The George Hotel, Main Road, Langworth. An assemblage of 18th and 19th century material, including pottery, animal bone, clay pipe fragments and a glass bottle sherd, was recovered from the fill of the ditch. Portions of the cobbled surface had slumped into the ditch, clearly indicating that the surface was of later construction. It was thought that the surface had been constructed to allow access over an area of boggy ground. {1}{2}
