Kings Hill is a fine motte and bailey castle, still strong and undamaged. Extensive foundations within the moated area indicate a house of some importance. The site is scheduled. {1}{2}{3}{4} Only the motte with its bailey to the south have survived, the published earthworks to the east, west and south having all been ploughed out. Disturbed areas on top of the motte and within the bailey probably indicate the site of buildings. The site was re-surveyed at 1:2500 by the Ordnance Survey. {5} A possible Grange of the Abbey of Waltham Holy Cross or a motte and bailey castle with outworks. Foundations existed within these outworks, indicating a substantial house (thought by C W Phillips in 1931 to be moated manor called 'The Ivorys'). {6} In 1937, Roman and medieval pottery was found during trenching at TF41345310. In 1959, Roman pottery and a kiln site were found at TF415532, after ploughing at the north end of the site and in 1960, Roman pottery, including samian and colour-coated ware were found and also medieval pottery was found at TF412531A. In 1966, an unusual St Neots handle was found in a rabbit scrape at TF414532. There may be confusion between this site and 'The Ivorys' placed by the Ordnance Survey at TF44585306. Romano-British pottery was found in 1967 by J. Sleight at TF416530A at the end of the site.
