A watching brief was carried out during remedial works carried out to stabilise the tower mound following the collapse of Victorian garden terraces during heavy rain. Evidence for the Victorian ornamental gardens was recorded and a large amount of residual Roman and medieval pottery was recovered, suggesting that the gardens had disturbed the make up of the medieval tower motte. {1}{2}
