A trench was dug in Wickenby Woods at some point in 1968, by pupils from De Aston school and their teacher. The trench was dug to investigate what was thought to be the possible line of a Roman road, running through this area. No details on the findings of the investigation are known, and the exact position, course, or indeed presence, of the suspected road remains unconfirmed. {1}
