Description

Fieldwalking was carried out in this area in conjunction with the geophysical survey (ELI7812). The fieldwalking was intended to identify possible archaeological deposits related to the nearby Scheduled priory site (PRN 50244) to the south of the route. No finds definitely related to this site were identified. The area of potentially significant anomalies identified by the geophysical survey was also targeted but no concentrations of finds were seen in that area. Overall, a thin scatter of Romano-British and medieval pottery was recorded but no concentrations were identified and this material may be derived from manuring scatters. Four worked flints were also recovered. Later post medieval and modern pottery and ceramic building materials were also seen but not collected. In some areas the vegetation cover was too dense to allow any reasonable degree of surface visibility. {1}
