Description

A watching brief was conducted during a geotechnical investigation of the retaining wall at the base of Lincoln Castle's Observatory Tower Mound. The excavation of three test pits was begun, but had to be curtailed for health and safety reasons. Nevertheless, a second wall was revealed behind the current retaining wall, quite likely the result of an earlier attempt to stabilise the mound. {1}
