Description

A programme of archaeological evaluation comprising four trial trenches were carried out on land at 5 Paddock Close, Ancaster, to inform the proposed construction of a doctor's surgery. The remains of a Roman limestone building and defensive ditch were revealed and numerous Roman finds collected. {1}{2} A subsequent programme of archaeological monitoring and recording (ELI14409) revealed the extent of the limestone structure, some 18m wide and comprising two bays. It is likely that the southern part of the building was demolished in antiquity (see ELI14344 and MLI127329).
