A test pit survey was carried out prior to excavation work by Ernest Greenfield for the Ministry of Works in two areas (Site A and B - the same areas as those investigated in 1960). Seventy-five test pits were excavated on Site A, in various parts of the side-drove or enclosure to the west of the droveway, and two lines of test pits were excavated along the droveway itself. Two hundred and twenty-seven test pits were excavated on Site B.{1}
