Description

Trial trenching was undertaken prior to extension of the quarry to ascertain the presence/absence of archaeological features and finds, and to inform future planning decisions. Nine trenches were placed where archaeological features might occur and in blank areas. Measurements were:- Trench 1 circa 60m by 1.8m; Trench 2 circa 26m by 1.8m; Trench 7 circa 17m by 1.8m; Trench 8 circa 19m by 1.8m; and Trench 9 circa 15m by 1.8m. Dimensions for the other trenches ranged between 16m and 60m in length by 1.8m in width. Archaeological monitoring was abandoned after recording of these trenches, by agreement.{1}
