Description
A geophysical survey was conducted to inform a proposed extension to Ancaster Quarry, Heydour. Anomalies representing two possible ring ditches, a trackway, a curvilinear field boundary and a possible circular enclosure were encountered. {1}
Subsequent trial trenching confirmed the presence of the parallel flanking gullies for the trackway, and found the boundary ditch to be Middle Iron Age in date. No evidence was encountered for the possible circular enclosure, and both of the suspected ring ditches were found to be of geological origin.
