Description

Six test pits were excavated on land at Clandon House, Thorpe in the Fallows, to inform the proposed construction of two extensions to an existing barn conversion. A series of buried soils and dumped deposits were encountered. Some of these deposits contained demolition material from the former post-Medieval and early modern ranges of brick-built agricultural outbuildings depicted on historic mapping. Finds recovered included Medieval and post-Medieval pottery, brick, tile and other ceramic material. A modern pit containing the articulated skeletal remains of a foal, thought to be an intentional burial, was also recorded. {1}{2}
