Description

A Level 2 Historic Building Survey was undertaken on the former Railway Good Shed Pumping Station, Mill Drove South, Cowbit. The survey was undertaken prior to a proposed residential development. The survey recorded both the goods shed and attached goods office. The goods shed is a single storey building of English bond brick and interlocking tiles. The west elevation consisited of 5 bays with windows in each bays. The east elevation contained two large openings acting as both a loading bay and cart entrance. The north and south entrance contained entrances for locomotives. Internally, the recording showed the building was open to the roof, with possible evidence of a crane feature along the length of the building, and dock staging evidence on the North West end. No end of a track bed was visile, as the floor had been concreted, but a circular indentation suggests the presence of a wagon turntable. The goods office is a single storey extension located on the south east elevation. A cast iron fireplace is located in the which is presumed to be original.{1}{2}
