Description

An archaeological excavation was conducted on land to the south of the A52, Wrangle, in advance of the construction of a new residential development. This followed prior geophysical survey (ELI2809) and trial trenching (ELI2810). Four broad phases of activity were identified, from the late 9th century AD through to the Late Medieval period, with most activity on the site limited to the 9th to 11th centuries. The site appears to have been abandoned due to increasing coastal flooding in the later 11th century AD. {1}{2}
