Description

A magnetometry survey was conducted on land to the south of Horncastle Road, Wragby, to inform the proposed construction of a new residential estate. A large rectangular double-ditched enclosure was identified. Several less clearly defined anomalies were interpreted as possible pits and linear features. A modern service trench was also noted in the northwest corner of the site. {1} Subsequent archaeological evaluation by trial trenching confirmed the presence of the large enclosure. The remains of furrows were identified across the site. The possible pit features were discovered to be the foundation remains of stone structures and associated demolition material, including a large spread of Roman tiles.
