Description
Ten trial trenches were excavated on land off Old Main Road, Scamblesby, to inform the proposed construction of a new residential development. A series of shallow ditches and small pits were revealed, from which a small assemblage of Medieval pottery was recovered. Alluvial layers sealed by modern made ground were also noted, suggesting that the area had historically been marshy and prone to flooding. {1}{2}
The trial trenching followed an assessment of the site's heritage potential undertaken in May 2013. {3}
