Description

Six trial trenches were excavated on land at Mill Farm, Kirkstead, as part of an Environmental Impact Assessment. A series of undated ditches of presumed agricultural origin were identified in the west of the site, but no other archaeologically significant features, deposits or finds were encountered. {1}{2} Trenches were positioned over cropmarks and in locations where prior geophysical survey (see ELI7502) identified a number of linear anomalies. Two of the excavated ditches aligned with cropmarks, one of which was also picked up by the geophysical survey. All of the other suspected features, including anomalies interpreted as a rectangular enclosure in the east of the site, were revealed to be geological in nature.
