Description

A historic building survey was undertaken on modern extensions to Ashby Hall, Ashby de la Launde, prior to the submission of a planning application for their proposed demolition. The survey area comprises two areas: the central courtyard infill, and the ballroom extension to the eastern elevation. Both extensions are believed to date to the 1960s or 1970s. The courtyard infill comprises a toilet block, two storage rooms, and several corridors linking the east and west sides of the hall, and was built in modern red brick in Stretcher Bond, under flat felt roofs. The Oak Room's west elevation was also extended at this time, with new wood panelling added to the walls. The ballroom extension to the east elevation, which necessitated the removal of three original bay windows, is constructed of yellow brick in Stretcher Bond, under a flat felt roof. {1}
