Description
A historic building survey was undertaken to perserve by record prior to conversion to residential use the cartshed of the former Church Farm, Fillingham. Previously part of a north-south aligned range of farm buildings associated with an unnamed farm to the west of what is now Rectory Lea. The surveyed building is a multi-phase structure, with remnants of an earlier limestone building incorporated into the later brick built cartshed. The roof is pantiled, and is hipped at the north end. The upper portion of the southern gable end as well as part of the eastern elevation (the remaining limestone elements) have been repaired using breezeblock. It is suggested that these walls collapsed when the building was shortened after the demolition of the rest of the range in the later 20th century. The interior consists of three cells: to the north, a small store room; the central cell is a two bay cartshed open to the west; and to the south, a probable stable with limestone cobble flooring. The cartshed can be seen on the 1st Edition OS Map of 1886, and could have early 19th century origins. {1}{2}
