Description

A programme of archaeological excavation was conducted prior to proposed development on approximately 4.5 hectares of land at Borderville Farm, Stamford. The investigation took place following prior geophysical survey (see ELI13191) and trial trenching (see ELI13192) on the land. The excavations uncovered evidence of a small rural settlement dating to the late Iron Age, which included a round house with associated agricultural land and enclosure boundaries. The presence of kilns and an iron working area indicated that the land transitioned to more industrial usage in the late 1st or early 2nd century, shortly after the Roman conquest. {1}{2}
