Description

An earth resistance survey was conducted as part of a community archaeological investigation of a field in the north-east of Ancaster, known as Kiln Field. Areas and linear features of high resistance were recorded across the surveyed area, and were thought to represent the remains of Roman roadside settlement and industrial activity, linked by a number of associated tracks, walls and yards. {1} Subsequent test pitting in this area confirmed the presence of the remains of former Roman roadside buildings and structures, fronting on to the adjacent Ermine Street (see ELI12867).
