Description
A programme of systematic metal detecting was conducted to inform proposed residential development on land off Mere Road, Branston. Abundant remains of a Second World War Lancaster bomber, known to have crashed on the site in 1942, were identified, including many fragments of aluminium fuselage, copper alloy components and pieces of bullet cartridges. A small assemblage of medieval to early post-medieval artefacts were also recovered, including pieces from a cauldron, a belt fitting and two buckles. {1}{2}
