Description
A programme of archaeological monitoring and recording was conducted during groundworks for the consolidation of the ruins of East Wykeham Church. The monitoring revealed the brick stepped entrance to a burial vault, built by the Child family in 1864. The monitoring also determined that the present church ruins were constructed as a folly over the burial vault immediately after its construction, incorporating fragments from an earlier church on the site. {1}{2}
