Description

Four trial trenches were excavated by CLAU, to the rear of 191 High Street, prior to redevelopment of the site. Whilst the results were largely negative, they indicated that stratified archaeological deposits were probably present on the site, although the construction of the original cellars of 191 High Street had destroyed these remains to at least a depth of 1.5m over large parts of the site. {1}{2} The trial trenches were recommended by a previously conducted desk based assessment. {3}
