Description
TF 09 NE HOLTON LE MOOR OFF CHURCH LANE (south side) 5/8 Stables at Holton Hall G.V. II Stables; C17 with late C18 and early C19 alterations and addition. Coursed rubble ironstone, red brick with pantile partially hipped roof. 2 storey, an earlier 2 bay block to left and a C19 5 bay block to right. The left hand block is of coursed rubble to ground floor and has a 2 light window with brick surround and a C17 single light to ground floor. The 1st floor is in brick above a band and has 2 louvred openings to eaves. On the centre ridge is a timber clad turret with 4 pane top light and lead bell shaped roof. The right hand block has a 1st floor band and a corbelled out and dentillated eaves course. There are 3 semi circular headed arches, in the centre, those either side of the bkntial arch are blocked, on the right with a C19 door with 4 pane overlight. Beyond is a stable door flanked by single glazing bar sashes. To the left of the arches are 2 further doors that on the end being at mezzanine level and approached up 5 steps. All openings have segmental heads. The 1st floor has 3 louvred openings to the eaves. The stone part was a dovecote which was purchased by Dixon as part of the original estate.
