Description

TF 08 SW COLD HANWORTH 2/1 Old Church House (formerly listed 30.11.66 as All Saints Church) G.V. II Incorrectly shown as church on OS map. Former parish church, now house. 1863 by J. Croft of Islington for Commodore Peter Cracroft in memory of his father. Rock faced limestone with ashlar dressings, slate roofs with raised stone coped gables and crosses fleury. Nave, chancel, south porch, western tower and vestry. The whole church is in an elaborate High Victorian Gothic style with much decoration. The tower of 2 stages has octagonal belfry, crowned by an octagonal spire. The west window is 2 light with debased curvilinear tracery. The tower is flanked by 2 cusped septofoil lights to the nave west wall. The north side of the nave has 4 two light windows with buttresses between. At the east of the nave north wall is a gable with a versica light. Beyond is an octagonal vestry with a pointed roof. The chancel north wall has one cross shaped window. At the east wall of the chancel is a large 3 light window with paired colonettes. Chancel south wall has a further cruciform window with to the west a lancet. The chancel south wall has3 two light windows now covered by C20 wooden casements. The gabled south porch has an outer C13 style door with nook shafts and moulded head. Over the porch is an octagonal moulded chimney stack. The inner doorway is a cusped pointed arch. The interior is extensively altered for domestic use and painted thus loosing the effect of the original polychromatic scheme. Listing NGR: TF0351183237
