Description
TF 08 NW CAENBY 6/12 Church of St. Nicholas 30.11.66 G.V. II Parish church now disused. Of medieval masonry but all fenestration dates from C19 restoration. Banded limestone and ironstone coursed rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings, stone coped gables and kneelers, slate roofs. Nave with western bellcote and western porch, chancel. The porch with 2 sets of paired lights has moulded parapet and a north door with plain chamfered surround and sacred monogram over. In the west wall the medieval roof pitch can be seen, surmounted by the stub of an earlier bellcote. The existing single bellcote is C19. The north wall of the nave has single stepped buttresses, a plinth and 2 C19 lancets. The chancel north wall has a blocked cambered headed light of an uncertain date. The C19 2 light west window cuts through the site of an earlier one. The south wall has a short lancet in the chancel and 2 further lancets to the nave. The reveals of earlier windows are visible to the left and right of the C19 Lights. All fittings date from C19. Listing NGR: TF0000389292
