Description
TA 10 NW GREAT LIMBER THE SQUARE 5/120 The Old Priest's House (Formerly listed as 1-11-66 The Priest House) II House, formerly priest's house, C17 with C18, C19 and C20 alterations. Colourwashed brick, thatched roof with steep tile coped gable, kneelers, with one gable and 2 ridge stacks. 2 storey irregular 5 bay front, basically a single long range, but with single storey kitchen at one end and single storey outshut. Off centre C20 double French doors with to left a glazing bar sash and to right a glazing bar casement, a glazing bar sash and a 4 light casement in the outshut with beyond again a half glazed door to the kitchen. On the first floor are 3 glazing bar sashes, a Yorkshire glazing bar sash and 3 small glazing bar casements. The 2 upper windows to the right of the front are dormers, the thatch sweeping up over them. In the kitchen are 2 bays of a C17 softwood ceiling with moulded girders. The main house roof is also C17, of trapped purlin with ridgepiece construction. On the first floor, extensive oak timbers of probable early C17 character are exposed, one bearing an unreliable date of 1311. Listing NGR: TA1332808537
