Description
SK 99 SE SNITTERBY BISHOP NORTON ROAD 3/39 The Old Rectory II Former Rectory, now house. 1859 by James Fowler. Red brick with ashlar dressings and some patterned diaper brickwork in black headers, plain tiled roof with decorative ridge tiles and 3 ridge stacks. 2 storey with stepped base, 4 bay front arranged under 3 gables, the central one having a carved bargeboard. The other gables are decorated with stepped brickwork. The off centre 4 panelled door with pointed head is covered by a porch with pent roof having a pointed doorway with ashlar surround. To the left is a 2 light window with cross mullion and ashlar surround and above a similar window. The central gabled bay has a 3 light stair window at mezzanine level with pointed heads to the lights and a moulded pointed arch over. In the gable is a shield in ashlar bearing the Winchester School motto "Manners maketh man". To the right is a canted bay window with hipped slate roof containing a 3 light window with stone mullions and transome in an ashlar surround. Above is a 2 light window with cross mullion. The 3 bay garden front is arranged with the central bay recessed and the end projecting bays gabled. Listing NGR: SK9854594212
