Description
SK 97 SE BURTON CHURCH LANE 9/13 Old Rectory 30-11-66 G.V. II Former rectory, now house. Late C17 with early C18 front and later C18 alterations and additions. Red brick in Flemish bond; the headers are slightly overburnt giving a chequered effect. End wall is rendered and that to the rear catslide is of stone. Plain tiled roof with stone coped raised gables and 3 brick gable stacks. 2 storey with attics, 5 bay front with late C18 2 bay with attic extension to left. First floor band and plain wooden eaves board. Central 6 panelled door with fan traceried overlight, wooden door surround with pilasters terminating in carved brackets supporting a narrow dentillated cornice. Pilasters have Adam style floral decoration. Door is flanked by single canted bay windows with glazing bar sashes and flat lead roofs. To first floor are 5 glazing bar sashes and in the roof are 3 glazing bar sash dormers with lead cheeks and segmental roofs. To right of the central first floor window is a metal fire insurance plaque with Sun design. To the left, the extension has a dentillated eaves course and an off centre flush 6 panelled door with to left a glazing bar sash and to the first floor a single similar window. All 3 openings have segmental heads, as does the leaded dormer. Interior has a dogleg staircase with turned balusters, probably early C18. Alcoves with semi-circular heads and keyblocks with fitted cupboards beneath to either side of imported fireplace in right hand room. Listing NGR: SK9614774556
