Description
DENTON CASTHORPE ROAD SK 83 SE (off east side) 3/40 Denton Canal Bridge (No.65 on Grantham Canal) 21.9.79 II Canal bridge. c.1797. Engineer for this section was William King, Duke of Rutland's agent, built by James Green of Wollaton. Red brick. Humped backed with curved splayed ends. Rounded brick arch with ashlar imposts, brick band to parapeted top. Stone coped parapet, repaired partly by concrete coping. The Grantham Canal was authorised in 1793, opened in 1797 and closed in 1936. Listing NGR: SK8660034259
