Description
BELTON & MANTHORPE SK9239 BELTON PARK, Belton 1315-0/8/93 (North side) Lion exedra at south end of Italian garden GV II Exedra. Early C19, resited 1921. By Jeffry Wyatville. Ashlar. Classical Revival style. Central recess with moulded coping, flanked by square piers topped with urns, framing a panel topped with a crest supported by volutes, with a lion-mask spout above a semicircular basin. Beyond, straight side walls with round arched blind arcades, 5 bays. Moulded coping and square end piers topped with urns. In each bay, a moulded bracket. One of several estate buildings by Wyatville for John, first Earl Brownlow of Belton House, c1815-1820. This building appears within Belton Park which is on the Garden Register at garde I.
