Description

SK 94 NW CAYTHORPE HOUGH ROAD (north side) 3/61 Frieston Hall 19-2-52 G.V. II House, C17 with early C19 additions and front. Coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings, stucco main block, raised stone coped gables with ball finials at base and brick gable stacks, slate roof. Main block has 5 bay two storey front with moulded parapet and stone coped pediment over surmounted by a ball finial and containing a blank pointed headed window opening. Central C19 panelled door under 4-centred arch contained in a coursed limestone rubble porch with ashlar quoins surmounted by a moulded parapet. The door is flanked by two pairs of glazing bar sash windows with shaped stucco lintels. The 3 first floor windows are pointed sashes, with elegant glazing bars in the Gothic taste. To the right is a two bay 2 storey wing with glazing bar sashes, and to the right a small wing of open bay with flanking pilasters, a Gothick traceried pointed window on the ground floor and an empty pointed headed niche above. Inside is a probably repositioned late C17 doorcase with moulded eared surround and keystone, as well as a room with early C18 raised and fielded panelling, reputedly brought from elsewhere. The same room contains a C17 round backed fireplace with a hacked back moulded 4 centred arch. Listing NGR: SK9373547619
